Rescuing a microbat on a car antenna: this is Betty Batty

Betty is an adult female Eastern Red Bat (a United States East Coast bat) who impaled herself on a car antenna and couldn't escape. Lucyn was called to rescue this little one, and brought her home for care. In care, Betty was very dehydrated however after a lot of rehydration she began to thrive in care. In some of the clips you can see the tatty membrane hear her tail where she skewered herself on the antenna, but that was healing nicely making her fit for release. You can see lovely footage of her industriously nom nomming her mealworms and looking perfectly content in care. I heard about this rescue through Mandi who met Lucyn when she was in Australia for a couple of years a while back and thought it was a good story for this channel and my viewers, so I contacted her and asked for use of the footage. She was kind enough to send me extra footage of when Betty Batty was in care, and attempted to get footage of Betty going back to her home,. Unfortunately it was too light for Betty to want to fly off (check out the long shadows in the footage), but 45 minutes later when it was fully dark, she flew off in a puff of teleportation and wasn't seen again. There is no footage but we know how hard it is to get footage in low light. I left in the attempted release footage to show that bats really don't like being out during the day and exposed to aerial predators; Betty knew that she was likely to be a snack for a passing bird if she left the safety of Lucyn's hand. Later, after releasing in the dark, she barely got out of the pouch before she dematerialised into the dark of her home territory. This was a learning curve for the carer (her first release). She knows now, bat is more important than footage.
