Description : Testing Camera #2 against Camera #1 At the Erie Canal in low light . They rebuilt the 101 year old Guard Gates this winter . These are the Guard Gates East of the Genesee River . A sheet piling coffer Dam is West of the Gate . Water is lowered in the Winter for yearly maintenance . Once every 10 years a Lock gets refurbished unless repairs are needed , then the work gets moved up . Both Sets of towers were completely down this winter and they are almost put back together . I do not know when the last major Overhaul was ,but there was a faded D.O.T sign on the East Tower last year . So at least the 80s for major rebuild . This Canal Operates with the original design because of the constant attention by Hard workers of the Canal Cooperation . They do a great job ! I picked low light conditions to try Another Camera against the m1063 . This was a Test , it Is Only a Test . The Guard Gates are used to Isolate parts of the Canal in case of an Emergency and to Lower the water for repairs . The Water behind the Sheet Pile Coffer Dam is from the Genesee River . There is still a Little commercial traffic . The Canal is used by Recreational Boaters and still sees a Big Move at least once a year . The Corning Glass Boat came thru this summer . Many large Pleasure Boats come thru on the way From the Great Lakes to the Hudson river then South on the Salt water . Some good stuff can still be seen on the 200 + year old canal .
