History of Goju-Ryu: Peter Urban

This video is about Peter Urban, the Grandmaster and Maestro of the USA Goju organization, who was among the first karateka to introduce Goju-Ryu to the United States. Urban's life and legacy was complicated, and he embroiled himself in several controversies, most notably falling out with Yamaguchi "Gogen" Jitsumi, who had been his sensei. However, his work and his organization did a lot of work to popularize Goju-Ryu, and opened doors for mane of the organizations that would later open branch dojos in the US. This video covers his life, study with Yamaguchi, Richard Kim and Mas Oyama, and the founding of the USA Goju organization, which still exists to this day.
