After looking for a boat like this for more than 30 years I put an offer on a 73 foot Royal Yacht from an estate in UK. The boat had been laying without any maintaince for a couple of years due to the former owners demise. So when the boat came on the market I put an offer well under asking price, since I knew it would have a lot of work to do on it. And it was also not paid any VAT in EU. I did not think that the offer would be accepted, but it was to my suprise. After a lot of work I with the help of four friends drove it from Dover UK to Stockholm Sweden. A journey of about 1000 nautical miles. Six days in 5 hour shifts is what it took to come home. I now more or less live on the boat, and are restoring and updating everything. All lighting, all electrical outlets since they were english and so on. A new air/water heating pump does part of the heating with the boats water radiator heating system, and some electrical heaters do the rest. I also installed a new Kabola diesel heater, that I can use in combination with the generator, if the electrical power failes. Of course then the diesel consumption is substantial instead of electricity. This winter has been really difficult, because of the ice situation and a very long period a really cold weather. But as long as there is enough electricity to use it is possible to keep warm and fight the ice situation. And spring is coming sooner or later. Probably later this year it seemes! The plan is to take the boat up on land this year to do the bottom and change out som through hulls and the bow and stern thrusters, to newer brushless ones. And also install a Yacht control system to make it easier to manouver when you are alone.
