Come along for a walk through Perth’s Central Business District (CBD), the vibrant heart of Western Australia’s capital city. Known for its blend of modern skyscrapers, historic architecture, and lush green spaces, the CBD is a bustling hub for business, shopping, dining, and entertainment. It stretches from the Perth Train Station down to the Swan River, offering a mix of urban sophistication and riverside beauty. The area has evolved from a small colonial outpost to a modern metropolis, yet you can still find heritage buildings such as the Perth Town Hall and the iconic State Buildings, which have been carefully preserved and repurposed into modern spaces for fine dining and boutique shopping. We continue strolling down to Elizabeth Quay, a stunning waterfront development located at the edge of the Perth CBD, connects the city to the beautiful Swan River. It was officially opened in 2016 as part of a plan to revitalize the riverfront and bring more people into the city. Historically, the area was known as "The Esplanade" and was largely parkland. However, with the development of Elizabeth Quay, the space has been transformed into a lively precinct with restaurants, bars, hotels, and public spaces. The Quay pays homage to its past with features such as the restored Florence Hummerston House and a bell tower that symbolizes the connection between old and new. Among the attractions at Elizabeth Quay is the striking "Spanda" sculpture, a towering loop structure that symbolizes connection and unity. The Quay also features the BHP Billiton Water Park, perfect for families, and the picturesque promenades lined with cafés and art installations. The ferry terminal at Elizabeth Quay serves as a gateway to nearby destinations like South Perth and Rottnest Island, while the island in the middle of the Quay offers a peaceful retreat with stunning views of the city and river. The CBD and Elizabeth Quay together represent the perfect mix of Perth’s historical roots and its forward-thinking urban design. While the CBD is home to major corporate offices, shopping arcades like Hay Street Mall, and cultural institutions such as the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Elizabeth Quay provides a leisure-focused contrast where locals and visitors can relax by the river, enjoy alfresco dining, or hop on a river cruise.
