Here, the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) decided to increase the Selic rate by 1 percentage point, to 14.25% per year. The Federal Reserve (Fed, US Central Bank) kept rates unchanged in the range of 4.25% to 4.50%. And, still in Brazil, the Federal Government submitted the bill (PL) that extends the Income Tax exemption for people who earn up to R$5,000 per month. To compensate for the loss of revenue, the government is proposing a minimum income tax for those who earn more than R$50,000 per month — or R$600,000 per year — with progressive rates of up to 10% for income above R$100,000 per month — R$1.2 million per year.
