Bug in or bug out? It’s a decision you make in minutes. This video gives you a simple 5-check framework to choose stay vs. go safely (apartment, suburb, or homestead). Run the checklist, make the call, and avoid the two biggest killers: leaving too late and staying without support. The 5 Checks (in order): Immediate Danger — fire, rising water, gas/chemical release, structural damage, violence → GO now. Time Window — can you leave safely before roads close? If yes, leave early. Home Support — water • heat/cooling • sanitation • basic security. If ≥2 fail for 24–72h with no workaround → GO. Dependents & Medical — infants, elderly, mobility, power/refrigerated meds → if home can’t support, GO early. Route & Destination — open route + confirmed place to land. No destination = STAY until you have one. Bug-In Minimums: headlamps/lanterns, water plan (store or treat), simple sanitation (bucket + liners), ready-to-eat food, first aid + meds, phone/radio alerts, doors locked. Bug-Out Minimums (pack): 2×1L bottles + squeeze filter + labeled bleach dropper, headlamp + spare batteries, 2 lighters + 3 contractor bags + 50 ft cord, first aid + meds (72h), ID copies, warm layer/hat/socks, power bank. Micro-Drills (do these this week): • 10-Minute Decision: run the 5 checks out loud for your top local hazard. • 30-Minute Leave: load the car calmly using a one-card list; practice manual garage release. Remember: Stay when home is safe and supplies are stable; Go when life safety is threatened or the window to leave early is open with a confirmed destination.
