This is to mark the end of the Class 455s out of London Waterloo The British Rail Engineering Limited Class 455 is a four-carriage train that is used on the South Western Railway (SWR) mainline suburban network. The Class 455s came into service on 28 March 1983 and have performed sterling service for over 42 years, with 84 available for services between London Waterloo and locations as diverse as Dorking, Chessington South, Guildford, Shepperton, Reading and Windsor & Eton Riverside. They were introduced to replace many of the Southern Railway "4SUB" trains that were used beforehand, and can operate "in multiple", which means that two trains can run together as an eight-carriage train to move the mass of commuters around the network. They also worked previously with Class 456 trains to form six and ten carriage sets.
