Khajuraho is a wonderous heritage town encircled with stunning view of Vindhya Range known for the immaculate sculptures of its temples, which taught us the lessons of spirituality over greed. This UNESCO World Heritage Site showcases the marvelous & rich architectural excellence in medieval India especially during the rein of Chandela Dynasty. The marvelous group of temples were built during 9th & 10th century by the Chandela Dynasty which dominated the central India at that time. Khajuraho is situated in Chhatarpur District of Madhya Pradesh & it is located 175 kms southeast of Jhansi. The temples at Khajuraho are geographically divided in to 3:- 1.Western group of temples 2.Eastern group of Temples 3.Southern group of temples Historical records show that there were 85 temples by 12th century spread over 20 square kms. Of these only 25 temples stands in varying stage of preservations spread over 6 square kms. The Khajuraho group of temples belong to Vaishnavism, Saivism & Jainism, which shows the beautiful blend of mutual coexistence of belief system in one platform. Among these temples the Western group of temples are most important. Of the surviving temples , 6 are dedicated to Lord Shiva, 8 to Lord Vishnu and hid affinities, 1 to Lord Ganesh, 1 to Lord Surya and 3 to Jains. The 25 temples at Khajuraho represent the brilliant burst of artistic flowering that took place under the generous patronage of the powerful Chandela rulers, who made Khajuraho their peace time capital. However these temples abandoned after the decline of the Chandela Dynasty in the 13th century. The place lost its importance around 1500 A.D. Hidden in a dense forest for over 700 years, they were rediscovered in 1838 by Captain T.S.Burt of the Bengal Engineers. Here in this vlog I have given a detailed tour of the Western group of temples. The Western group of temples consists of 3 main temples: 1.Kandariya Mahadev Temple 2.Vishvanatha Temple 3.Lakshmana Temple Other temples included in western group are Jagadambi temple, Chitragupta Temple, Nandi Shrine, Parvati Temple, Varaha Temple, Lakshmi Temple. Of these Kandariya Mahadev is most famous with its unique temple structure depicts Mount Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva. The art works symbolically highlights the four goals of the life that is Dharma, Ardha, Kama & Moksha. The temples at Khajuraho contains several thousands of statues with Kandariya Mahadev temple alone decorated with over 870 statues. The stone figures have given us the finest sculptural compositions which vibrate with a rare sensitiveness & warmth of emotions & remarkable for their sculptural qualities. ** If we need to know about the history of the Chandela Dynasty as well as the Khajuraho temple, then a light and music show is arranged by the tourism department of Madhya Pradesh, so please see this show before visiting these temples so that its become very easy to recollect the history. We took 2 days to see the western group of temples, eastern group of temples and the southern group of temples which are located within 2 kms circle. Other tourist attractions near Khajuraho are Panna National park, Pandav falls ,Raneh falls and the great Kalinjar fort and last but not the least Neelkanth Mandir....All these will be covered in the coming episodes of my travel vlogs. As per our tour experience we took 5 days to explore Khajuraho and nearby tourist attractions. Place of stay: Hotel Chandela...we strongly recommend the stay at Chandela due to their warm hospitality and ambience.
