On Aug. 2, 1990, when Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, the Defense Communications Agency was called upon by the Department of Defense to establish a critical communication network. By employing cutting-edge technologies like microwave, fiber optics and copper cable, the DCA successfully set up over 100 satellite links, forming the Southwest Asia Telecommunications or SATS network. DCA's unparalleled contributions during the Gulf War played a vital role in the success of military operations, leading to its well-earned redesignation as the Defense Information Systems Agency in 1991. About DISA DISA is the U.S. Department of Defense's premier IT agency, responsible for maintaining the DOD's global information technology infrastructure. As a combat support agency, DISA conducts operations for the U.S. military to enable lethality across all warfighting domains - on land, at sea, in the air, space, and cyberspace - in defense of the United States of America.
