Sören Sieg: Farewell. Performed by Ebba-Maria Künning-Zeijl und Adriano da Silva Trarbach.

Farewell is the last of my ten African miniatures UKUVALELISA for recorder solo I published this year. Ukuvalelisa in Xhosa means Farewell, so this is the title-giving piece. It is an attempt to say farewell to my father who died in 2015. But I guess it’s not really possible to say farewell to someone who was so near, so important, and still so mysterious like my father was for me. Hence, the end is open. My friend António Carrilho from Lisbon played the Premiere in the Sydney conservatory on February 19. In summer I wrote a version for recorder and violoncello for the exam of one of Ebba's pupils at the Hamburg conservatory, and Ebba liked it so much that she recorded it with Adriano da Silva Trarbach for my 54th birthday. Adriano is from Brazil and studies recorder and violoncello at the Hamburg conservatory. Thank you Ebba, thank you Adriano for this nice birthday surprise!
