Norfolk & Western 611 | Mainline Steam to Staunton | Shenandoah Valley Limited 2025 [4K]

In the autumn of 2025, Norfolk & Western class J 4-8-4 no. 611 returned to the Buckingham Branch Railroad and Virginia Scenic Railway to lead the "Shenandoah Valley Limited." These excursions ran over former Chesapeake & Ohio rails between Goshen and Staunton, VA, with a few of the trips pulling all the way into the historic Staunton depot. The Michigan-based Steam Railroading Institute provided a matching set of passenger cars for the streamlined locomotive to pull, with two of Virginia Scenic Railway's own cars on the rear. With no place to turn the locomotive at Staunton, the trips were run in push-pull fashion with 611 leading to Staunton and two diesels leading the train back to Goshen. On a personal note, this was my first time seeing 611 under steam, and it was easily one of the greatest highlights of the year for me. The show put on by the locomotive and her crew was nothing short of incredible. The beautiful Virginia fall colors and the friendly atmosphere of the region also made the trip well worth it.
