Arrma Big Rock FPV: Internet Control Part 2 – Sensors, Stability & Low Latency! 🏎️📡 The project continues! In this second update, I’m diving deep into the hardware refinements and new sensor integrations that make driving an RC car over the internet much more reliable and data-rich. From switching to more compact controllers to adding a "digital brain" for smoother steering, here’s everything that changed. 🚀 What’s New in Part 2: Controller Upgrade: Moved from a standard ESP32 to the tiny ESP32-C3 Super Mini. It's smaller but packs plenty of power for 200Hz control loops. I also added an external antenna to boost the Wi-Fi range and reliability. No More Jitter: Replaced the noisy analog signal with a Digital Potentiometer. This ensures a clean, stable signal for throttle and steering, eliminating random twitches. Sensor Fusion: I’ve added a GPS module and a 9-axis IMU (Compass/Accelerometer). By mixing these signals (Sensor Fusion), the UI now shows an accurate compass and real-time map tracking. Precision Speed Tracking: I installed a Hall Effect sensor and a neodymium magnet on the wheel. Now I can measure actual wheel RPMs and calculate distance/speed way more accurately than GPS alone. Better Video: Optimized the stream to 60 FPS, which helped bring the total glass-to-glass latency down to around 200ms over 4G. 🛡️ Safety & Reliability: The "Kill Switch": Why keeping the original radio transmitter in the loop is actually a great security feature. Durability: After things literally fell apart during a high-speed test, everything is now secured with hot glue and reinforced connectors to survive the vibrations of the Arrma Big Rock. 💡 What's next? With the accelerometer and Hall sensor working, I’m planning to implement Traction Control. This will help the car detect when it's stuck in snow or mud and automatically adjust the power for the best grip. Stay tuned for more updates!
