Brazeau Loop was an amazing hike, with lots of great views, creeks, mountains, lakes, etc. We started our hike by driving a portion of the Icefield Parkway to Nigel Pass. Its at almost the halfway mark between Jasper and Banff. Here you can start your hiking journey, where you pass through Nigel Pass to get to your first site at Four Points Campground. Day one included 14km, walking over Nigel pass, through Nigel creek into Four Points Campsite. At camp you find Boulder creek for water, many spaced out tent spots and a food area with picnic tables and bear hangers off to the side of the food area. The washroom area is an OPEN area, no boards for privacy here. But there are rocks to get you to stop and call out before any unexpected encounters ;-) Day 2 was a 19 kms hike that started out with snow; yes snow in August. Hiking from Four Points over Jonas Shoulder to Jonas Cutoff campground entails a higher elevation day. Most will hike from Four points to Brazeau Lake/River campsite. However, we were up for the challenge and decided to complete the loop clockwise. This glorious trail is located between mountains on all sides. The snow added to the scenic views. We stopped for a snack here, as it was just so gorgeous, you just wanted to take it all in. Plus a snack is needed for energy to tackle Jonas Shoulder. The climb provided for an even better view of the valley from where we came. The climb down was fun as we rode the scree down and within minutes we were onto the next trail over another beautiful valley, onto our campsite. Here you find John-John Creek for water, an eating area, more open toilets and nice views of the mountains. Day 3, we climbed out from our campsite and onto Brazeau Lake via Poboktan Pass. Our 16.4km hike was another perfect day, with sunshine and no snow this day. We did see some bear scat but never a bear, thank goodness. There is a campsite before Brazeau lake called John-John. This camp was updated in 2021. I have to mention, the Field Team from Jasper who set up these camps are by far the absolute best crew out there. I believe one team leader is Ian. The time they put into planning out these campsites is incredible. They set up areas with more than you could ever want. John-John has open bathroom but with a rope to clip between two trees, this tells people it's in use! Love that! There is also a table between two trees to provide cover if raining. Another snack here and we headed out for the last 9km to Brazeau Lake Campsite. When we arrived at the lake, it was incredible. You can walk past the eating area to your right and follow the lake to more views of the mountains. Weaving in an out from the shoreline and the treeline. To the left of the eating area is where you want to grab your water. I tell ya, you get the best tasting water from these lakes in the backcountry. At this site, you will also find a horseshoe game area, courtesy of Jaspers awesome field crew!!! We spent two nights at this campsite. Giving ourselves a day to enjoy the lake and rest up. Also, there is another open toilet area, with a rope between trees to hook up when you are there using the clean facility. Day five, our hike out from Brazeau lake, 32km hike out. The way out follows Brazeau River. Another perfect sunny day out. All in all, the trail was 81kms of complete enjoyment, with sun, rain, snow and more sun! Highly recommend this trail to anyone interested in Backcountry hiking. Info fr planning Brazeau loop: https://pcacdn.azureedge.net/-/media/...
