Deploying ocean bottom seismometers (nodes) in the Atlantic Ocean | Offshore Life

A video I took a couple of years ago of the deployment of an ocean bottom seismometer (OBS) near the Mid Atlantic Ridge. The deployment was part of expedition MGL1305 on the RV Marcus G. Langseth. The OBS were deployed to record the seismic waves generated by airgun shots (artificial seismic sources), to image the structure of the crust on and around the Rainbow massif. Rainbow is an "oceanic core complex", i.e. a dome-shaped striated massif created by faulting along a very long lived fault (an oceanic detachment fault).
