www.EyeOC.com / doctorkrad Within a healthy eye is a clear lens. As we become older, that lens becomes cloudy. The cloudy lens is called a Cataract. In cataract surgery, the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens implant. The new artificial lens is supposed to help the patient see clearly. Some patients may still require glasses afterwards, while others do not. There are lens implants that provide a single focal point (monofocal), and other lens implants like the PanOpti, Synergy, or Clearview that give multiple focal points (Multifocal) Another type of lens implant are the Extended Depth of Focus lenses (EDOF). Examples include the Symfony, Vivity, and IC8 Apthera lenses. Toric lenses decrease astigmatism. Basic Monofocal lenses do not reduce astigmatism and only have a single focal point. These lenses are all fixed and cannot be adjusted afterwards, with one exception that is the light adjustable lens (LAL). The LAL can have it's power finely tuned after surgery to help sharpen a patient's vision. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comment section below!
