The Santoor or Shatatantri Veena, a musical instrument of Kashmir, expresses the various moods of this land, which, in turn, are reflected in the musical compositions of this paradise on earth. The present symphony is a product of Pt. Bhajan Sopori's memories of Kashmir, re-created in the tranquillity of his composer’s mind that inspired him from time to time. His contribution in bringing these diverse elements together in order to create an extravaganza of rhythm and melody is incredible. The symphony is divided into seven movements, corresponding to the seven colours of the rainbow he saw over the silver mountain range as a child. The seven pieces also depict the 7 Chakras in a human body. He presents a fusion of the traditional, the classical, the Shaivite, the Sufiana and the folk music of his motherland, with contemporary sensibility. This collection is from Pandit Bhajan Sopori's music album 'Kashmir - A Rainbow of Melodies', which is part of his music therapy series - 'Naad Yoga on Santoor'. About the composition - The Village Song recalls the Wullar, on the shores of which is situated Sopore, Pandit Bhajan Sopori ji's ancestral home. Here he presents the variegated moods of his life and the folk song that nurtured him from infancy to youth. Chakras are the centers of energy in a body, which look after the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual being. There are 7 chakras, which are normally linked to 7 colours: 1 - Muladhara (Root Chakra) – Red colour 2 - Swadhishthana (Sacral Chakra) – Orange colour 3 - Nabhi (Solar Plexus Chakra) – Yellow colour 4 - Anahata (Heart Chakra) – Green colour 5 - Vishuddha (Throat Chakra) – Blue colour 6 - Agnya (Third Eye Chakra) – Indigo colour 7 - Sahasrara (Crown Chakra) – Violet or White colour -------------------------------- Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/panditbhajansopori Instagram ► https://www.instagram.com/bhajansopori Twitter ► https://twitter.com/BhajanSopori -------------------------------- Pt. Bhajan Sopori ji (1948 - 2022) was more than an individual - a performer and composer par excellence, musicologist, teacher, writer, poet, and an extraordinary human being, he was a complete institution in himself. Regarded as the cultural bridge of Jammu & Kashmir with the rest of the country, he was hailed as the “Saint of the Santoor” & the “King of Strings”. Pandit Bhajan Sopori represented the fabled ‘Sufiana Gharana’ of Kashmir, the exclusive traditional Santoor family of the country with its roots spanning over 300 years. Representing the age-old Shaivite - Sufi tradition, he had been the pioneer in establishing the Santoor at global platforms as a complete solo instrument. He created history by being the first person to play the Indian Classical music on the Santoor in concerts way back in the early 1950’s. He gave his 1st public concert at a tender age of five in 1953 followed by his 1st Radio broadcast through All India Radio at the age of six in 1954. This was also the first ever Radio broadcast of Classical Santoor recital through All India Radio. In his 7 decades of dedicated work he explored various dimensions of the Santoor, carrying out many path-breaking innovations and introduced the ‘Sopori Baaj’, the systematic style and format of playing the Classical Santoor. A composer of over 8,000 songs, he combined a profound knowledge of music and musicology and carried out immense research on music therapy. The mystic master used his Santoor and his compositions to highlight the concept of oneness and foster unity enshrining the idea of national integration, humanism and peace amongst the common man and the youth in particular. For his enormous contributions, Panditji received hundreds of national and international awards & titles. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir named the Auditorium at the Department of Information & Public Relations, Srinagar (J&K) as ‘Pandit Bhajan Sopori Auditorium’ on 15th August 2022 in honour of the great music legend. -------------------------------- All Rights Reserved © 2023 - Pandit Bhajan Sopori #SaintOfSantoor #KingOfStrings #Chakras #panditbhajansopori
