Bodycam: ‘Drunk Teacher’ Admits to Having Glass of Wine Before Showing Up to Court

In a surprising turn of events, Kimberly Coates, the Oklahoma teacher who was arrested in August for allegedly showing up to school drunk, has found herself in legal trouble once again. This time, Coates was arrested for allegedly appearing intoxicated at the Payne County Courthouse, where she was scheduled to attend a hearing related to her previous public intoxication charge. Body camera footage captures Coates telling officers that she "didn't understand" why she was being arrested, but she later admitted to having consumed a glass of wine before heading to the courthouse. The deputy observed that Coates had glazed eyes, slow and slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol. Despite her apparent intoxication, the deputy allowed Coates to attend her court appearance after processing her through security. However, the deputy continued to monitor Coates' movements through surveillance video, noting that she had to use the railing and wall to steady herself as she made her way from the second to the third floor. Once Coates was finished in the courtroom, the deputy approached her and confirmed that she had admitted to drinking wine in the morning.
