How does the way we define “the problem” shape the way we show up with generosity? In this episode, we slow down and look closely at focus—what we are actually aiming to accomplish when we intervene. Focus shapes how we see brokenness, how we design solutions, and ultimately how people experience our generosity. As we grow, our focus matures through clear stages, moving us from fixing surface-level problems toward participating in deeper, more holistic restoration. In this episode, we explore: • Five stages of growth in focus: problem, pattern, place, partnership, and people • Why many generosity journeys begin with visible needs—and why they can’t stay there • How understanding patterns and context leads to wiser, more sustainable engagement • The shift from outside solutions to asset-based partnership with local leadership • What it means to focus on the whole person, including restored relationships with God, self, others, and creation As we reflect on these stages, we’re reminded that generosity is not just about solving issues—it’s about seeing people as God does and joining His work of restoration at every level. Growth in focus invites humility, patience, and a deeper kind of love.
