Project Arts Centre is delighted to present 'An Unconformity' by Bridget O'Gorman to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities on the 3rd of December. This piece includes an excerpt of text from work in progress as part of Deep Time (a nonconforming, collective research project made possible through the EVA International Platform Commissions, Field: Arts and the Arts Councils Visual Arts Project Award). Deep Time stems from ongoing research around sustaining a practice in a disabled body. Applied slowness alongside an overt acknowledgement of support and interdependency forms an integral part of this inquiry. In geological terms the word ‘unconformity’ is used to describe two juxtaposing rock layers separated by a sharp line – evidence of how the earth has evolved over an expanse of time far greater than is humanly possible to fathom. This phenomenon represents an absence – or non-recorded time. Evolving studio and writing based research underpinned by the term ‘Unconformity Objects’ considers the body in this context – or bodies which go against the grain of normative timeframes. Bridget O'Gorman is an artist and writer. Her practice explores the instability of objects and bodies. Working with live event, text, video and sculptural installation, her enquiries oscillate between material and somatic registers, considering otherness, speculative and expanded corporeal experiences: ultimately informing a dialogue around their social, political and historical resonances.
