Draculas Castle - Slains Castle Bram Stokers Inspiration Scotland

We visit Slains Castle, the inspiration for Bram Stokers Dracula, on the coast of Cruden Bay, originally constructed in 1597 and is said to be one of Scotland’s most haunted castles. Sitting right on the edge of the cliffs with the constant sound of crashing waves and screeching sea gulls, this place doesn’t lack atmosphere. Secondly we visit an early 20th century parish church, it ceased to be used for this purpose by the 1980’s and the remains we find inside here today are from the residential use that followed. After the resident passed away, their unique collection of belongings were left behind to decay. Although its growing closer to becoming inaccessible due to the collapsing floor and vandalism, its still fascinating to view the quirky contents of this building, it would seem the previous owner had travelled the world and picked up many keepsakes from far & wide. The bedroom area is lit by beautiful stained glass, old portraits seem to glare from every corner and stuffed animals have congregated all around. A unique and memorable visit though sad to see it perishing, unnoticeable, for now, from the well kept cemetery that surrounds it. Finally, we take a late night trip to an abandoned church that has sat here this way since the 1980s. Built in 1891, the building itself is impressive with high ceilings and multiple wooden features. A lot of the original numbered pews remain arranged in a large half circle facing in towards a wooden stage with an ornate design.
