Waymo is about to get WAY MO passengers! The robotaxi company owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet has been given the green light to operate in L.A.! The California Public Utilities Commission came to this decision DESPITE safety concerns from local leaders. As well as an incident in Waymo’s L.A. test run, where a robotaxi failed to stop when directed to by a traffic cop! For what it’s worth, a Waymo rep has said the company will, quote, “take a careful and incremental approach to expansion.” Underwater cables in the Red Sea have sustained damage, causing major disruptions in global telecommunications, including internet traffic! In fact, one telecom company has estimated that TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT of traffic between Asia, Europe, and the Middle East was affected! It’s unclear at this point who’s responsible for the damage. Yemeni rebels have been attacking commercial vessels in the Red Sea since last year… so I wouldn’t count on repairs any time soon! And America is getting its first over-the-counter birth control pill! Opill is expected in American stores later this month, with a suggested retail price of around twenty dollars for a one-month supply. The Ireland-based company Perrigo, who's producing the pills, said they will be sold like any other over-the-counter medications, with no age restrictions. Many other areas of the world offer birth control pills without a prescription, including much of South America, Asia and Africa.
