Wen and Merkel strolled through Changpuhe Park, a favourite gathering place among Beijing residents who engage in group exercises. She and Wen chatted to some of the people in the part and even took part in some of the exercises themselves . Merkel was leading a 40-member trade delegation that included business executives and German Economy Minister Michael Glos and Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee. China is Germany's most important trade partner in Asia so business meetings will be a priority, but Merkel is also expected to talk to Chinese leaders about pushing Iran to give up enriching uranium and human rights issues. She and Wen will take part in a German-Chinese high technology forum, and she meets President Hu Jintao in the afternoon before flying to Shanghai. There she is scheduled to meet Bishop Aloysius Jin Luxian of China's government-backed Catholic church - an effort, German officials say, to focus on religious freedom in the communist nation.
