On Cybertron, Orion Pax, a miner without a transformation cog, sneaks into an archive to learn about the Primes. After a cave-in at the mine, he and his friend D-16 save a fellow miner but are blamed by their overseer, Darkwing. They discover that the Matrix of Leadership is missing, causing Energon to stop flowing. During a race, Orion and D-16 illegally compete but are punished by Darkwing. The two, along with B-127, find a distress message from Alpha Trion, leading them to a hidden cave where they uncover the truth about Sentinel Prime’s betrayal. Sentinel had been supplying Energon to the Quintessons while creating the miner class by removing their cogs. Trion reactivates and provides them with cogs, but is executed by Sentinel. After a failed rescue attempt, Orion, D-16, and their team are captured. D-16, growing more aggressive, takes command of the High Guard and defeats their leader, Starscream.
