Theme from “Love Story” – Ray LaRovere Orchestra, featuring Ray LaRovere on piano.

The instrumental theme from the movie Love Story by Francis Lai and Carl Sigman. It later became known as “Where Do I Begin,” after lyrics were added. Andy Williams took added lyrics to a top ten hit and it still is my wife’s favorite version. Henry Mancini’s instrumental version was released as a single and did well in Billboard’s “Easy Listening” category. Here we have a live recording from the Meadowlands Hilton in NJ, featuring the leader, Ray, affectionately known as “The Italian Liberace,” on his grand piano, which he brought to the gigs to ensure a decent keyboard would be available for the performances. The recording is just two mics connected to a reel to reel back in the early 1980’s with no intention of creating an audio masterpiece. I’m the lousy conductor trying to keep the band together without benefit of any rehearsal. Not too shabby for a bunch of Larry Elgart alum.
