Planning on selling the Burl DAC I got last year so I can afford an Atmos setup, so I decided to do a test with it. This video compares outputting the same song out of the Burl DAC into the Burl ADC, and the the Focusrite 18i20 2nd gen going in and out of itself. I also added the raw track in there for reference. Everything is at 96khz, OBS reduced it to 48, and YouTube puts it into 1kb/s over compressed mp3. If anyone wants the PT session, leave a comment with your gmail (without the @gmail.com part). The main bonus of a high quality DAC is for running audio in and out over and over. A single pass of this already mastered song may not make much of a difference though. I personally hear the Burl "open up" which I didn't expect because it's already been recorded, processed, etc. Feels like it somehow adds a tiny amount of detail that isn't in the original. The Focusrite to me sounds like it takes away detail in the song and makes it very "flat". Towards the middle of the song I switch more directly between the Focusrite and Burl and the difference is evident. I'm aware that the preamps aren't bypassed on the Focusrite as opposed to something like the Audient, but since there's no way around it that's the best way to practically test it. I tried getting levels to match, they're each off by 0.1dB or so with the raw track being the loudest but to me the Burl sounds louder. If there's any hyper nerds on here, I used HOSA quarter inch TRS cables (I know, disgusting) and audio is passing through the Art P48 patchbay.
