Is this the best 3-star hotel in the world? During our stay at Hotel Steinbock in Pontresina, Switzerland, we experienced a luxury we had never seen in any other 3-star hotel — from a complimentary limousine pick-up and a personal welcome gift to access to a luxurious spa usually reserved for high-end hotels. Our journey already felt special with a scenic UNESCO World Heritage railway ride through the Swiss Alps, crossing historic viaducts and breathtaking mountain landscapes before arriving in Pontresina. What followed surprised us even more: thoughtful room details, genuine hospitality, a beautiful spa with pool, whirlpools, saunas, fruits and organic teas — and service touches normally associated with 5-star luxury. From cosy evenings in the piano bar and local Swiss cuisine to fresh snowfall, spa mornings and spotting wild ibex in the surrounding alpine nature — this stay proved that star ratings don’t always reflect real experience.
