Buried History: Stories of Ozarks Death, Burial and Funeral Traditions While death has always been part of life in the Ozarks, the way it is recognized has evolved with time. An oral history series, jointly produced between Missouri State University Libraries and Ozarks Alive, explores different traditions and recognitions from customs to casket styles. Jerry Rader of rural Webster County has nearly 80 years of connection with the Black Oak Freewill Baptist Church and its cemetery, which are located east of Marshfield on Highway DD. In this oral history interview, Jerry shares history of the Black Oak Cemetery Association, which he has long led; how it operates; and his memories of growing up in the community and funeral traditions of days gone by. (The first part of this interview was video recorded. It transitions to audio only at 16:17.)
