𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞! Today, #1's aggression toward #2 was particularly bad. It tried to kill its sibling. It's amazing how much such small eagle chicks can endure. #2 hatched on May 10th! It was obvious almost from the beginning that there was sibling rivalry. I could argue that the bad weather had an influence. But I don't know. It could be that Spilve's offspring just means one eaglet. I tried to show as little "brutality" as possible. In our eyes, it's horrific. But it seems important for the survival of the species. In the end, we also have a food shortage. That's probably why Spilve uses it as food for her firstborn. It's normal and truly serves the survival of the older one. Link to the live stream you can find below. 📍Info by LVM: This artificial nest was installed in 2010 and since then the male golden eagle Virsis and female Spilve have been nesting here. The last succesfull nesting of golden eagles here was in 2016. In 2020, a baby hatched from the egg, however it died at the age of less than two months. In 2023, this particular pair of eagles nested in another bog, however in 2024 the eagles did not nest. The nest is located in a bog on an island owned by JSC “Latvia’s State Forests”.
