Despite this pandemic, the Consumer Affairs Division helped to resolve complaints from consumers, which amounted to over TT$5 million in reimbursement or compensation. Director of Consumer Guidance and Protection, Claudette Jordan-John, said the Division received 803 complaints from consumers from January 2020 to March 12th, 2021. Approximately 66%, or 532 of these complaints, have been resolved so far with full refunds amounting to TT$1.15 million, while consumers benefitted from partial refunds totalling $79,000. Just over TT$1 million amounted to exchange of products, while close to $410,000 was spent by businesses or factory outlets on repairs of products purchased. Mrs. Jordan-John said this shows that the Consumer Affairs Division has been working to remedy problems faced by consumers, and she urged them to continue to report any problems being faced. She however reminded consumers to collect all information before making a purchase, ensure all warranty information is received, and to copy receipts or warranty information if the bill has been fading.
