Dali (大理) Dali sits quietly between the Cangshan Mountains and Erhai Lake, in the heart of Yunnan Province. It is one of the most picturesque and culturally rich cities in southwest China, once serving as the capital of the Nanzhao Kingdom during the 8th century. The city covers an area of around 29,000 square kilometers and is home to the Bai ethnic group (白族), whose whitewashed homes and intricate architecture create a unique charm. Life in Dali moves gently, following the rhythm of the wind over Erhai Lake. The old town, with its traditional courtyards and stone streets, tells stories of trade and friendship from the ancient Tea Horse Road. The landscape here feels timeless, with fields of flowers, drifting clouds, and light that changes the mood of the mountains every hour. Lijiang (丽江) Lijiang is a prefecture-level city in the northwest of Yunnan Province, known for its deep cultural heritage and diverse landscape. It spans over 21,000 square kilometers and has a population of about 1.25 million people. The heart of the city is the Old Town of Lijiang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site admired for its ancient wooden houses, stone bridges, and canal system that flows like veins through the city. Human activity here dates back more than 100,000 years, and by 658 AD, the Baisha Old Town became the cultural and political center of the Naxi people (纳西族). The Naxi culture continues to define the region, visible in every detail of architecture, art, and tradition. Lijiang was also a key point on the Ancient Southern Silk Road, linking China with Burma, Tibet, and distant lands beyond Asia. Throughout the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, the Mu family (木氏家族) ruled and shaped Lijiang into a center of trade and cultural exchange. Surrounded by the Hengduan Mountains, where the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau meets the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, Lijiang enjoys a mild climate and breathtaking natural scenery. Among its most famous destinations are Lugu Lake (泸沽湖), home of the matrilineal Mosuo culture, and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (玉龙雪山), where clouds rest on silver peaks. Lijiang is where history breathes softly, and every turn of the street feels like a memory still alive. Shangri La (香格里拉) Shangri La lies in the northwestern corner of Yunnan Province, on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau. The name itself means “the land of eternal peace,” inspired by James Hilton’s novel Lost Horizon. It is part of the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and covers an area of about 11,600 square kilometers. This highland region sits more than 3,000 meters above sea level, surrounded by snow peaks, vast grasslands, and sacred monasteries. For centuries, Shangri La has been home to the Tibetan (藏族), Naxi (纳西族), and Yi (彝族) peoples, each adding layers of faith, color, and tradition to its story. The region is known for its strong Buddhist influence, seen in its prayer wheels, temples, and the peaceful hum of chanting that fills the air. The old town of Dukezong is one of the oldest Tibetan towns in Yunnan, with wooden houses and winding lanes that once guided caravans on the Ancient Tea Horse Road. Beyond the town, the Songzanlin Monastery, built in the 17th century, stands as the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan. Surrounded by mountains and golden fields, it mirrors the grandeur of the Potala Palace in Lhasa. Together, Dali, Lijiang, and Shangri La form a journey through the soul of Yunnan. Each city holds its own rhythm, culture, and light, yet all share the same quiet poetry that makes this region unforgettable. #lijiang #yunnan #china 📷Date of shooting 1st January 2025 🎉Follow / eagle.multiverse 👉Subscribe: / @eaglenguyen ☕Buy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/eaglemultiverse Contact [email protected] 🎬Itinerary 00:00 Overview of 7 days trip 00:32 Arrived in Dali 大理市 00:58 Erhai Lake 洱海 02:21 Dali Old Town 大理古城 08:13 Xizhou Ancient Town 喜洲古镇 09:29 Baisha Old Town 白沙 12:00 Jade Dragon Snow Mountain 玉龙雪山 13:45 Blue Moon Valley 蓝月谷 14:23 Impression Lijiang Theatre 16:32 Lijang Old Town Night Market 19:20 The Giant Water Wheels (大水车) 21:09 Tiger Leaping Gorge 虎跳峡 14:23 Impression Lijiang Theatre 22:34 Shangri La 香格里拉 23:19 Ganden Sumtseling Monastery 26:36 Dukezong Old Town 独克宗 27:25 Guishan Park Music Licensed with Epidemic Sounds, Musicbed, c Thanks for watching!
