Ballinode Comm Project win Monaghan Integrated Development Community Development Group Award 2012

The Monaghan Integrated Development Community Awards 2012 were held in The Iontas Theatre Castleblayney on Monday 19th November 2012. The last group award of the evening, Community Development Group 2012 was presented to Ballinode Community Projects, a group that has made great improvements to Ballinode through sheer hard work and dedication. The group has worked on the physical environment and also on social activities for all the community. They have liaised with Monaghan County Council to improve village infrastructure including lighting, footpaths, repairs to stone walls and upgrading of the water and sewage networks in the village. They also have accessed funding from LEADER to build a fantastic new children's playground, which recently opened. The group has upgraded their local hall to a high standard and it is now used for a wide variety of activities including classes in art, computers, crafts, cookery and keep fit. It is also home to the youth club and a cross border/cross community wood craft group.
