New Year Celebration in a Temple in Korea? Fun & Healing Guaranteed! @Hwaom-Sa Temple

When in Korea during New Year, you might think the whole city is celebrating? Unfortunately nothing much happens usually, apart from mayor places like Suwon Hwaseong Palace, Seoul City Hall or Lotte Tower etc. So, I suggested my friends in December 2023, to move to Gurye and do a Temple Stay at my favorite Temple: Gucheung-Am Hermitage at Hwaom-sa Temple. Hwaom-Sa Temple is the Main Temple of the Jogye Order, Korea's largest Buddhist order. Together with my sweet friends from the US, France, Korea and Guadeloupe we were a sweet group to experience this wonderful stay. We wrote down our Delusions of the year 2023 and burned them. Wow.. the Temple Oven had a fire that looked like Fire out of Hell!!!! One of our friend almost burned her Face!!! Oh Gosh! Then we wrote our Goals of the year 2024 and kept them save ^^. Burning some Magic Candles with friends.. giggling, laughing.. and then going to the Hwaom-sa Main Temple for the ringing of the Big Bell. Usually 33 Times the Big Bell got hit.. and we had the chance to hit the bell at least 1 time. The Head Monk caught us with our Sparkling Wine Bottle ~ Oh My! He laughed, because I did not manage to open the Cork and suggested to help me opening the bottle ^^. What a humorous Monk! We received hot buns and tea.. and with other Locals we did the countdown. At 12:30pm, the Temple was already empty! Oh yes, Koreans are quick! But what a sweet memory we had ~ It was the sweetest experience for New Years with Friends! We experienced a wonderful temple stay, had delicious temple food, met sweet people, had a countdown and sweet treats and a lot of excitement too. The next day, so January 1st, was so sunny and bright.. we went for a soft hike along the stream towards Yong Gi -Am.. and we enjoyed the wonderful lookout. What a wonderful memory..
