En 1961, Michael Rockefeller, hijo del multimillonario y exvicepresidente de Estados Unidos, Nelson Rockefeller, desapareció en Papúa Occidental mientras participaba en una expedición para documentar la cultura de la tribu Asmat. A pesar de extensas búsquedas nunca se encontró su cuerpo. Diversas teorías sobre su destino permanecen hoy día, incluyendo la posibilidad de que fuese asesinado y devorado por los Asmat o de que permanezca aún hoy oculto voluntariamente en la selva. Su desaparición sigue siendo uno de los grandes misterios de la historia contemporánea. In 1961, Michael Rockefeller, son of billionaire and former US Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, disappeared in West Papua while participating in an expedition to document the culture of the Asmat tribe. Despite extensive searches, his body was never found. Various theories about his fate remain to this day, including the possibility that he was killed and eaten by the Asmat or that he remains voluntarily hidden in the jungle to this day.
