Greetings! This video is a departure from my normal content, but I've searched for over two years for an answer to this problem that I finally solved today. I'm posting this video to help others who may be seeing this. The issue is with my ICOM ID-4100A ham radio, although I suspect it applies to other models and brands of ham radios and scanners. What I was noticing was that the audio would stop for maybe half a second during longer receiving transmissions. When I was out railfanning, it would be very noticeable during defect detector broadcasts, often cutting out right at the axle count and train length. My searches on the internet always led me to disable the weather alert (wx alert), but in my case, it wasn't turned on. Finally today I figured out that it's the Pause Timer function. When I had scanning enabled, it would pause on an incoming transmission, and then 10 seconds later, start scanning again. Because this frequency was still active, it would stop on the same frequency again. It sounded like an audio cut out, but it was in fact the scan timer. I changed the Pause Timer to "Hold" and the problem went away. If you found this video helpful, I would appreciate you hitting that like button to let me know.
