Samuel Beckett an Irish by birth but settled in France He wrote in English as well as in French. He was a playwright, a novelist, short story writer, poet and theatre director. He is one of the important modernist writers. He received Nobel prize in 1969. He died on 22 December 1989 when he was 83 His plays revolve around impersonal and tragicomic experiences of life with dark humour and absurdity of life. His plays ultimately lead you to the laughter of liberation. Hence the name Tragicomedy! En attendant Godot,is a Tragicomedy-an absurd play. Written in 1948- 49 by Samuel Beckett in French.
