In a beautiful Indian village, there lived a salt merchant named Krishnan. Every day, he loaded heavy sacks of salt onto his donkey and traveled to a nearby town market to sell them. On the way to the market, he had to cross a river. One day, as usual, Krishnan loaded the salt sacks onto the donkey and set out for business. When they reached the river and started crossing it, the donkey suddenly slipped. Losing its balance, the donkey fell into the river. Because the donkey fell into the water, the sacks of salt on its back got wet and began to dissolve. Krishnan helped the donkey get up gently. Since the salt had dissolved, the sack became almost half its original size and weight. The load on the donkey’s back felt extremely light. The donkey felt very happy because the burden was no longer heavy. However, the merchant suffered a great loss. With no salt left to sell, Krishnan had no choice but to return home with the donkey. The next day, Krishnan once again set out for business as usual. This time, the donkey deliberately fell into the river. Krishnan immediately understood the donkey’s trick. The following day, instead of salt, Krishnan loaded a sack of cotton onto the donkey’s back. As usual, when they reached the river, the donkey fell into the water again. But the cotton absorbed water and became very heavy. Struggling with the heavy load, the donkey crossed the river with great difficulty and finally reached the shore. The donkey realized its mistake. Both Krishnan and the donkey returned home, wiser than before. Moral: 👉 Clever tricks may work once, but dishonesty always leads to trouble.
