Back in the 1960s a botanist named Dr. Young loved the flavor of the shy producing Edward mango variety. He decided to try and create a mango with the flavor of an Edward and the productivity of the highly successful Kent variety. He isolated the trees and hand pollinated Edward with Kent. He planted the resulting seeds and after a decade the trees started producing fruit. Tree number 14 produced a fruit that tasted like Edward with the productivity of a Kent and the Edward-Kent Number 14 variety was born!
