This video is for the developer. Starting from Randle-Kiona airpark, I make a vertical take off, then transition to normal flight, climb and fly towards Mount St Helens, USA. I then climb over the volcano, where the thermals bug made the aircraft climb at idle power (watch from 7:30)... I managed to get out of that bug by using forward thrust, and pushing the stick to gain speed and loose altitude (from 11:00). It is bizarre that when pointing the nose down, I could not get any forward speed, at least speed showed 0! I needed lots of forward thrust to exit that bug... I later hover over a lake and fly back to Randle-Kiona airpark, where I slow down to transition back to hover flight. I land vertically, but it was difficult to balance the aircraft, so I took more time... This demands concentration looking closely at the vertical speed, and some anticipation, because engine’s N2 power will lag behind the throttle position, so it is important to anticipate when to add and remove power to remain stable in the hover or to control a descent or ascent. My Assistance settings, shown at the beginning of the video, are set to HARD, of course. To make it more realistic, I was in Live Weather and real time. In order to be able to take off vertically, the Harrier must imperatively be under 21,000 pounds / 9,525 kg. I take off at around 8,675 kg. I am getting more comfortable at vertical landings. It is fun to be able to land anywhere, but I still need more practice... This is the DC Designs AV-8B Harrier II, released on 23 Nov 2022. This aircraft could get improvements in the curves around the canopy, and both air intakes' curves. But the sound is excellent!
