WATCH: King County officials give update after Green River levee failure sparks concern

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a flash flood warning for west central King County, Washington, following a breach in the Desmone Levee along the Green River. King County Executive Girmay Zahilay, along with other local officials, spoke about the conditions of the levee at a press conference Monday afternoon. "The levee was breached and caused flooding behind Rainier Industries," said Zahilay. "Although this was sudden and caused widespread concern, luckily no one was injured." The levee is in the process of being repaired, which is expected to take several hours or more. King County Emergency Management officials said they were already monitoring the Desmone Levee due to concerns, which is why they were able to respond so quickly when the breach occurred. Officials said the levee will continue to be monitored closely as repairs are made.
