DEBATE ON SATURDAY 29TH JULY BETWEEN MUFTI MUHAMMAD ASLAM BANDYALWI حفظه الله تعالى AND MOLWI UTHMAN DEOBANDI AT JAMIA ISLAMIA RIZVIA BRADFORD Subject of Debate: THE KUFR STATEMENTS OF THE ULAMA OF DEOBAND. Firstly, Tahdheer-un-Naas of Qasim Nanotwi. Secondly, Hifdh-ul-Iman of Ashraf Ali Thanwi. Thirdly, Baraaheen-i-Qaati'a of Khalil Ahmad Ambethwi and Rashid Ahmad Gangohi. PART 1 Mufti Muhammad Aslam Bandyalwi presented the three kufr statements of Tahdheer-un-Naas: (1) "So the common people think that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم being 'Khaatam-un-Nabiyyeen' means that his time will be after the time of the previous prophets and that he is the last of them all. However it will be apparent to the people of understanding that being first or last in time possesses no excellence in itself. Therefore in the place of praise, how can saying ولكن رسول الله و خاتم النبيين in this way be correct? Indeed if this quality is not included amongst qualities of praise, and this place is not viewed as a place of praise, then indeed 'Khaatamiyyat' in terms of time can be correct." [Tahdheer-un-Naas, page 3] (2) "Moreover if for instance in the time of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم there is another prophet anywhere else, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم will still remain the 'Khaatam.'" [Tahdheer-un-Naas, page 14] (3) "If for instance after the time of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, any prophet is born, even then there will be no difference in 'Khaatam-e-Muhammadi.' Even if it is during the time of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in some other world or for instance even in this world any other prophet is advocated." [Tahdheer-un-Naas, page 25] Mufti Muhammad Aslam Bandyalwi stated, "The above mentioned three statements are kufr and whoever doubts this is also a kaafir according to us." PART 2 Molwi Uthman Deobandi response: "The opponent has presented the statements by hiding the actual topic of the book. They have been shown by omitting the preceding and succeeding text. We can also present statements like this. The aqeeda of Mawlana Qasim Nanotwi is fully in accordance with the aqeeda of Ahl-us-Sunnat. Whereas deceit was done in Husam-ul-Haramayn. The three statements presented by Mufti Aslam Sahib as being kufr are not kufr according to us." PART 3 Concluding Summary: The three kufr statements of Tahdheer-un-Naas were presented and the Deobandi opponent only wrote his stance upon them after approximately an hour and a half. As he remained firm upon defending the three kufr statements, upon the conclusion of the discussion Mufti Muhammad Aslam Bandyalwi rejected the opponent's offer of a handshake. In the discussion it was written that all three of these statements are kufr and Molwi Qasim Nanotwi denied the finality of prophethood of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in terms of being last in time whereas this is proven from Nass-i-Qat'i (clear text). The debater of Ahl-us-Sunnah, Mufti Muhammad Aslam Bandyalwi stated in his evidence that the term 'Khaatam-un-Nabiyyeen' is clear in proof and clear in meaning, i.e. Just as it is in the Qur'an, likewise its meaning that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is the last of the prophets in terms of time, this is also proven from the Qur'an. Therefore just as it is kufr to deny the term 'Khaatam-un-Nabiyyeen,' likewise it is also kufr to deny the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم being the last Prophet in terms of time. Further this meaning is proven from Nass-i-Qat'i (clear text). Then also proven from Ahadeeth Mutawatir (Mass transmitted Hadiths which are also of mass transmitted meaning). Also the entire Ummah has Ijma (unanimous agreement) upon this meaning. The denier of these three proofs is a kaafir. Therefore all three statements of Tahdheer-un-Naas, each statement individually, are unequivocally kufr regardless of preceding and succeeding text. One who doubts their kufr is also a kaafir. However the opposing molwi asserted that they are correct and wrote that these statements are not kufr, the writing of which is presented. When the discussion commenced, the Deobandi was unable to answer the proofs against the kufr statements. The denial of Nass-i-Qat'i, Mutawatir Hadith and Ijma of the Ummah is kufr. The opponent diverted the subject matter hither and thither. In the end after leaving his side claimed victory on social media. This is an old habit of Deobandis that they make premature announcements of victory. In conclusion, (1) whoever has the belief, or writes this in a book, that the meaning of 'Khaatam-un-Nabiyyeen' being last Prophet in terms of time is merely the thought of common people, (2) or asserts another meaning e.g. that 'Khaatam-un-Nabiyyeen' means superior etc. (3) or he states that after the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم another prophet can be born and no difference will occur to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم being 'Khaatam-un-Nabiyyeen,' — then one who says such is also a kaafir.
