6 Things You MUST Know About Living in Greater Lafayette

Lafayette, Indiana. Some describe it as the greatest place to raise a family 🏠 , get a degree or access BOTH Indy & Chicago. All are true. However, if you’re going to live in Greater Lafayette there are SIX things you MUST know! In this video, I’ll share with you my thoughts. From great schools, to fun events, there’s no shortage of things you must know about living in Greater Lafayette. 1. Greater Lafayette is made up of Lafayette and West Lafayette. Two cities. Two mayors. There’s a river and several bridges that separate us geographically. However, oftentimes we act like one big city. Both are located within Tippecanoe County, which boasts just under 200k residents. 2. There’s a Big 10 University in our backyard. World renowned Purdue University brings diverse speakers, performers, educators and athletics within minutes of your home! Side note: In early August about 35,000 kids move in to town… don’t go anywhere. Or, go, but pack your patience. 3. Parks & Trails- Columbian Park & Zoo 🐵 , Tropicanoe Cove, Prophetstown State Park (Indiana’s newest State Park), Happy Hollow Park- 81 Acres in the middle of town. 4. There’s a fabulous display of Indiana Art in what was a 1904 World’s Fair mansion. The Haan Museum collection is impressive as is the 15,000 square foot mansion it’s hosted in! And, at Christmas time there are some impressive train 🚆 displays. 5. There’s ALWAYS something to do around here: a. Feast of the Hunter’s Moon- Historical reenactment of 18th century life at Fort Quiatenon. b. Christmas Parade- Nighttime! 🎄 c. Spring Fest at Purdue- Free to all ages to learn about animals, art, astronomy and much more! d. Mosey Down Main Street- Series of street celebrations—artists, musicians, outdoor food… e. Taste of Tippecanoe- Presented by Arts Federation f. Round the Fountain Art Fair- Supports fine arts education in five area public schools, after hours arts programs, public art projects, etc. (free) g. Germanfest at St. Boniface h. Global Fest- One-day celebration of world cultures through music, dance, crafts, displays and international food. 🎭 i. Starry Night- Street festival in downtown WL to promote awareness of Isaiah 117 House. j. Indiana Fiddler’s Gathering- Three days of performances, workshops, open stage, camping, artisans, craft beer, food & fun! 🍺🥧 k. Wabash Riverfest- Sponsored by Wabash River Enhancement Corporation… exhibits, float trips, hikes, 5k, canoe races! l. Aviation Day at Purdue Airport- Climb on and off various aircraft displays. m. Farmer’s Markets- We have three! n. Aviators Baseball- Prospect League… summer college baseball under NCAA rules. o. Lafayette Symphony, Civic Theater, Chamber Singers 6.
