Residents and activists have raised serious concerns after trees were cut and green vegetation was cleared from a protected sand dune in Sernabatim–Colva, Goa. As per reports, the site (Sy. No. 14/1-A) falls under CRZ 1-A (No Development Zone), where any tree cutting, land clearing, or alteration of sand dunes is strictly prohibited. Despite this, the dune’s vegetation cover has allegedly been removed, causing environmental damage and raising fears of illegal development. The Talathi has inspected the site, and locals are demanding immediate action, a stop-work order, and enforcement by the authorities. Sand dunes act as natural coastal barriers that protect Goa from erosion and flooding.
