Mercedes Sun Sensor Replacement - Very Simple Repair!

How to: Mercedes sun sensor replacement repair including how to diagnose the problem. It's a very easy part to replace and doesn't cost much either :) The Mercedes sun sensor (part # 204-905-75-01) is a fairly common part that fails over time and it's used in many Mercedes models starting as far back as 2010 up to 2023. Usually one side of the sensor will fail first (it has two sun sensors on each side), but most people won't notice it until both sides fail which was the case with our GLK 350. The climate control system just wasn't cooling as quickly as it used to on hot sunny days, but on heavily overcast hot days or at night, it seemed to be working fine. There is no warning in the vehicle that comes up when the sun sensor fails, you have to use a scan tool that is capable of communicating with all the control modules (ECM's) in the vehicle to confirm the fault (DTC 960015 & 960315). As shown in the video, I use a FOXWELL NT530 scan tool for all our vehicles. It's a very powerful little scanner considering the fairly low cost and is OE level, bi-directional meaning it communicates with all the ECM's in the car and will perform activations. The price of the NT530 includes one software for whatever make vehicle you want, but you can purchase additional software for other makes as well from FOXWELL's website; again at a very reasonable cost which is much more economical for DIY'ers than having to invest in several dedicated scan tools. Foxwell is always updating their vehicle make software to include new models and improve functionality when required. Updates are free!
