Amid rising global concerns over maritime trade routes, Iran has clarified that the strategic Strait of Hormuz has not been completely closed for all countries. The clarification was given by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who stated that the sea route remains open for most international vessels. According to Araghchi, restrictions apply only to enemy nations such as the United States and Israel, while ships from other countries can continue to use the route as usual. He emphasized that Iran has not blocked the passage for global trade or commercial vessels belonging to neutral countries. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints, connecting the Persian Gulf to international waters. A significant portion of global oil and liquefied gas shipments pass through this narrow sea corridor, making it crucial for global energy supply. Iranian officials also stated that any tanker involved in hostile activities against Iran would not be allowed to pass through the route. Meanwhile, some ships have temporarily avoided the passage due to security concerns following recent military tensions in the region.
