Installing Birdies Raised Beds Garden Project - 2021 (Building and Growing a new Veg Garden)

A compilation of the raised bed garden project videos and photos from leveling the ground, planning, building the beds, to the end of summer with our garden full of produce. We knew we wanted a large garden and started trying to figure out where the best location would be for access, water, and sun. Once we determined the location out by the greenhouse behind the garage we went back and forth about doing a no dig style on top of the hard pack or raised beds. Last summer I had my hip replaced due a high school sports injury, so having raised beds seemed like the best option for that but I also really wanted a market style garden. The other big factor was that the land was built up with fill when the garage was built about 7yrs ago before we purchased the property so we didn't know what we would find. Watching YouTube videos for inspiration we found Mark at Self sufficient me and Jase fell in love with the Birdies beds and the tunnel. pretty quickly we found Kevin at Epic Gardening and we had a rough idea of what we wanted to do. The original plan was for 12 raised beds, 4 short and the rest tall. That changed to 16 and we ordered freight from Kevin after we purchased the first few to make sure we liked the quality. We started most of our plants from seed in our basement some as early as January 31st. This was a challenge at time as we had to buy lights, figure out fertilizer and kept running out of potting soil (thankfully have a great store, Emerald City, right near us in Westminister MA). On top of this project we tapped sugar maple trees for the first time, tilled and created a field garden for corn, and got a puppy this spring. Watching this back now, it is amazing what we have accomplished, and I am absolutely in love with how it came out. As of now mid/late August we have canned over 150lbs of tomatoes in multiple ways, frozen 12-13lbs of bell peppers, made pickles, cowboy candy, dilly beans, and more. our pantry is nice and full for the long new england winters and we still have a few more things to make and process.
