By mid-morning the temperature at Tamworth had climbed to 30° and we handed back our gorgeous granddaughter after enjoying 2 days & nights. So we had time to tick-off our shorter planned route around the Bendemeer area. How good is the riding in that area! We headed up Watsons Creek Rd for the well renowned Bungendore Spur Rd. We didn’t know it but we happened to be on the high side of a mountain so the Spur was a narrow, continuous and steady descent. This road is also known for its 2 side-by-side switchbacks (see map pic). Once back on the ‘bottom’, Halls Creek Rd is very nice ride back to Bendemeer (the area does have alternative great rides from here too). The Bendemeer Hotel was a busy, vibrant place to stop for lunch — it definitely lived up to its wonderful reputation! After lunch, we headed back to Tamworth, but initially turning off on Bendemeer Station Rd — another great road featuring plenty of up & down climbing, lots of twists & turns and it gets capped off with some outstanding scenery. As this road neared the Oxley Hwy, we turned in the other direction and tracked along beside Jamiesons Creek, the mountain edge, and the railway line on another great road — Danglemah Rd. Eventually we’re back on sealed roads by Limbri, and not far from Tamworth where we hit the pool upon our arrival. / rideday
