One Minute Bunkai: Ok go ahead and say it, the Bo is not for fighting someone who is unarmed? Says who? Well of course who would be dumb enough to face someone with a bo, that's why a likely scenario would be that he would sneak up behind you. Or two opponents jumping you, one restraining you from behind to take a way your bo of course. This technique shown here assumes a "kamae" or posture commonly seen in the Ufushiku style of Bojutsu, holding the Bo horizontally in front of you, which implies that it can be used to crush inwardly. This can be done with a broom handle, a stick, anything resembling a bo. The Bo is such a destructive weapon and I cannot emphasize my love and respect for it, it was the big GUN in Okinawa of old. If you are serious about practicing and learning to really use the Bo, please do not limit its use to what you simply see at face value in any Bo kata, there is much more to it. Study the Hanbo and you will see the similarities and the versatility. There "ARE NO RULES" in real combat, never assume anything, like someone jumping you from behind Bo or no Bo.
