After retiring from the Forest Service, Connie worked as a camp cook for Richie Outfitters in the area around Fog Mountain. On October 2nd, 2018 a hunting party Connie was cooking for set out on their hunt in the early morning. Although the hunting party was in radio contact with Connie the next day, transmissions were not clear, and this would be the last time anyone would ever see or hear Connie.
