This is a playthrough of single player mode using Motaro in the Genesis version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Read on below for more information... Motaro is the penultimate boss of the game. He is an unlockable playable character, but he can only be selected in a 2-player game. This means that he is unavailable in a single-player game. ===== HOW TO UNLOCK MOTARO ===== In the Genesis version of the game, Motaro can be Enabled in the hidden Killer Codes options screen. Here's how to get it: On the menu screen, input the following command: A, C, Up, B, Up, B, A, Down If you've done it right, all the secret menus will appear. Go into the Killer Codes options, and set Motaro to Enabled. He'll now be available in a 2-player game, replacing the center dragon panel on the character select screen. He can only be selected in a 2-player game, and only one player can select him. ===== SPECIAL MOVES ===== -- Fireball: HCB + [HP] -- Grab & Punch: F,F + [LP] -- Teleport: D,U -- Tail Sweep: B + [LK] ===== ABOUT UMK3 MOTARO ===== Motaro originally appeared in Mortal Kombat 3 as the sub-boss, and is an unplayable character in most versions of MK3 and UMK3. Even using alternate methods to select the non-playable versions of him is pretty useless, as he easily crashed the games if you try to control him. (you may have seen this on my channel.) The breakthrough finally came in the SNES and Mega Drive versions of the original Mortal Kombat 3, where Motaro was made a genuine playable character in them, accessed within hidden options screens whereby the player would have to input a command to unlock them. This has thankfully carried onto Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, as we see here in the video. ===== GAMEPLAY ===== Motaro is a very powerful character in this version of the game, and as a 2D MK boss, he plays completely differently to the regular characters. However his large size does make him a big target, which could be considered a "weakness". However this is countered by the fact that he cannot be harmed by projectiles, instead reflecting them back towards his opponents. Here is the information on him, as follows: --- He can actually jump, but he cannot attack during jumping, meaning that he has no air Normals. When the CPU is controlling him it never uses these jumps. ---- He cannot crouch and he cannot Run. ---- He does not have any finishing moves, nor can finishing moves be performed on him. ---- When the CPU controls Motaro, the CPU is able to do some unorthodox low jumps and long-range type jumps. A human-controlled Motaro cannot do this. ---- His Fireball often does not hit the opponent despite it coming into contact, instead it disappears just as it looks about to hit him/her. I think the reason for this is that the Mega Drive sometimes cannot handle it. ---- When you complete the game with him, it crashes the game, producing the error screen. ---- In gameplay, the horns on this head seem to be incorrectly coloured. ---- In the Mega Drive version of the game, Motaro's in-gameplay sprites are smaller than what he should be in general when you compare him to the other characters. I think the developers did this because the Genesis wouldn't have handled a proper-sized Motaro well at all. ---- In a versus game on the character select screen, if Motaro is selected it does not go to a versus screen. Instead, it just goes to the fight straight away. ---- In a 2-player game, only one player can select him. ---- He can appear on any stage background in the game. ---- He does not have a proper alternate color palette for mirror matches, instead they are "wrong" colours. You can see this in the mirror match starting around 8:42 in the video. ---- In Motaro mirror matches on some backgrounds, the game struggles to handle it causing some graphics flickering. ===== ABOUT GENESIS UMK3 ===== The game is developed by Avalanche Software. As this uses the same code from Sculptured Software's previous port (MK3) on the same size cartridge size (32Mbit), it meant that many cuts had to be made, some of which as follows: ---- The character Sheeva is removed. ---- The announcer voices for the character's names are removed. ---- The Animalities are removed. However the Mercy feature is still intact. However, there were some extras/improvements over the original Arcade UMK3: ---- Rain and Noob Saibot are added to the playable roster. ---- Mileena, Ermac and Classic Sub-Zero are available from the start and are regular characters. ----- Brutalities (from Mortal Kombat Trilogy) were added to the game.
